| Requirement | Note |
|---|---|
| Claude Code | Installed via the plugin marketplace mechanism |
| Python 3.11 or newer | Needed by the setup skill for the venv. On Windows the py launcher resolves this reliably even when python and python3 point at the Microsoft Store alias |
| Wiki.js | With a reachable GraphQL API. The plugin uses the pages queries of the Wiki.js 2.x API |
| Wiki.js API token | Permissions according to the .env template: read:pages, write:pages, manage:pages |

claude plugin install wikijs-plugin@wikijs-plugin
A plain git clone is not enough to run the plugin: the MCP server starts through the wrapper bin/run-server, which uses the Python interpreter from ~/.wikijs-plugin/venv/, and only the setup skill creates that venv.
/wikijs-plugin:setup
The skill works through these steps:
python3, then python, then py -3, then known Windows install paths)~/.wikijs-plugin if it is missing~/.wikijs-plugin/venv if it is missingrequirements.txt, even if the venv already exists.env template to ~/.wikijs-plugin/.env, but only if that file does not exist yetmcp, httpx and dotenv can be imported (no valid Wiki.js login needed).env, MCP)Enter the values WIKIJS_API_URL and WIKIJS_API_TOKEN in ~/.wikijs-plugin/.env (details on the Configuration page) and restart Claude Code so the MCP server gets loaded.
Afterwards, check with
/mcpthat the serverwikijs-mcpis connected.
The variable names WIKIJS_API_URL and WIKIJS_API_TOKEN are the same as in the standalone wikijs-mcp-server. You can copy the values into the new ~/.wikijs-plugin/.env and need no new token. Then remove the old manual MCP registration, otherwise the tools show up twice.
You update the plugin through the Claude Code plugin management. Credentials and history live outside the plugin directory in ~/.wikijs-plugin and survive the update. After an update, run /wikijs-plugin:setup again: the skill always re-syncs the dependencies so new packages are not missed, and it does not overwrite an existing .env. Restart Claude Code afterwards.
You remove the plugin through the Claude Code plugin management. The folder ~/.wikijs-plugin (venv, .env, database wikijs-plugin.db, optional glossary.local.md) is not deleted automatically. If you want to get rid of the token and the local history, delete the folder yourself.
Deleting the folder also removes the verified markers (see Technical). Pages count as unverified again afterwards.
